Allergy skin tests

Allergy skin tests: a prick test can already be conducted on small babies. In this test a drop of a special solution containing the allergen is applied on the forearm. The skin test with food allergens is usually more accurate by using fresh foods. A large number of foods (eg milk, egg, nuts, soy, wheat, etc.) are already available in our practice, other foods such as fruits, vegetables, fish or seafood must be brought along if necessary. A patch test is used to evaluate delayed skin reactions, e.g. following the use of an antibiotic. In this test a drop of an antibiotic is placed on a small metal plate and these small plates are applied with a plaster on the child’s back. The test must remain on the back for at least 48 hours, during this time the child should not shower or take a bath.
