Drug allergies

Drug allergies are less frequent among children compared to adults. More often it is a nonspecific rash in the context of viral or bacterial infections. In order to distinguish this, allergy skin tests might be useful. In the case of mild reactions, it is often possible to perform directly a drug challenge test in order to exclude a drug allergy. This is important, because otherwise unnecessarily too strong or less suitable antibiotics might be administered in case of infection.
